THE BEACH BOYS ON DISNEY+

THE BEACH BOYS ON DISNEY+

Our team spent three years working on The Beach Boys documentary with Disney+ and filmmaker Frank Marshall, and White Horse Pictures. When it came to marketing the documentary with the Disney+ team, we wanted to work with creators to highlight the pure sense of joy that The Beach Boys’ music brings. The timing of the documentary marketing release happened during the audio block on UMG repertoire, which had an impact on The Boys' music, so we had to get creative.

Our core social strategy was to emphasize "summer fun as a place for everyone," celebrating the playful, "fun, fun, fun" side of The Beach Boys around the premiere of their Emmy-nominated documentary. The in-house creative team that I manage worked closely with the Disney team and Giant Music to bring creators into focus.

  • Stephen Sanchez is channeling his retro sound into a Beach Boys-inspired dose of sun-kissed nostalgia!

The singer-songwriter will release his new single “Baby Blue Bathing Suit” on Friday, May 17, a tune inspired by the Beach Boys that includes references to the ocean, hot summer nights, and of course, harmonies over a beachy beat.

Sanchez, 21, cowrote the track with Dan Nigro (who works with stars like Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan) and Amy Allen (Harry Styles, Sabrina Carpenter), and it’s set to appear on the soundtrack of the legendary band’s new Disney+ documentary The Beach Boys, which will hit streaming on May 24.

In a behind-the-scenes video shared exclusively with PEOPLE, the trio open about the making of the song, which Nigro says was all about “creating a feeling of nostalgia” and “a reflection of time.” Sanchez also shot a video for the song on — you guessed it! — the beach in Sydney, Australia.

“We did try to make it in the style of the Beach Boys, and it does have a feeling of nostalgia and just feeling good,” Allen says. “Especially because they’re the Beach Boys, summer is synonymous with everything they do.”

  • Stephen Sanchez has the world captivated with his nostalgic voice. We sat down with the “Until I Found You” sensation and got his thoughts on how he fell in love with the ’50s-inspired genre, his ‘Angel Face (Club Deluxe)’ album, his reaction to Priscilla Presley’s seal of approval, working on his single for the Beach Boys movie and more!

    Stephen Sanchez:

I just fell in love with it and fell in love with the sound and all the artists attached to that sound in that time and music just isn’t like that anymore. Hey everyone, it’s Stephen Sanchez and you’re watching Billboard News.

    Rania Aniftos

Hey everybody, it’s Rania Aniftos with Billboard News and I’m so excited, we’re here with the ultimate crooner today, Stephen Sanchez. I mean, we gotta get to the beginning of it. Of course people love you for your kind of 1950s-style fresh take on a throwback time that people miss. Have you always been into that?

    Stephen Sanchez:

Man, I grew up kind of surrounded by that music a little bit. But also there was a ton of self discovery as well. I think more than anything, you know, the lyricism and the orchestral production of those songs, it makes you feel nostalgic even more so. I mean, probably back then that was the norm, right? Like I don’t think anyone was feeling nostalgia. I definitely feel like their love was soundtracked by that music. But I think now even more so this is a feeling of nostalgia.

    Rania Aniftos:

Well, that was super clear with “Until I Found You,” because I think people are yearning for this old-school type of love, you know? And a lot of people ended up using that song on TikTok to kind of romanticize the romance.
